a little sunny and a little sad, like the season, and
infinite in wealth and depth of tone— but never
hustled.

Log Cabins, still commonly used as homes of the
county's natives, were purchased by city
residents joining the back-to-nature movements
in the late 1920's and early 1930's in Brown
County. The trackless snow indicated this one
has been closed for the winter.
TRADING POST EARNS
IT'S OWNER A MANSION
WILLIAM CONNER, a fur trader born in an
Indian village, was one of Indiana's fascinating
and important men. He settled his trading post
north of present Indianapolis in 1800, when
central Indiana had no other inhabitants but
Indians. In 1823, he built this elegant .mansion
while the area was still wilderness. Purchased
and restored by Eli Lilly, Jr., the mansion is
today a public museum at Conner Prairie Farm,
near Noblesville.
