Caption from Indiana State Board of Health Monthly Bulletin: The Indianapolis City Hospital at the end of the Civil War. The hospital was completed in 1859 at the cost of approximately $30,000. During the war years it was turned over to the Federal Government, and approximately 13,000 soldiers were cared for there. The frame structure was a wartime addition.
