FROM the 1916 Easter Rising anti-colonial and
national liberation movements around the world
drew inspiration from the example of the Irish
struggle for freedom. But we have lived to see that
glorious tradition dishonoured and the Irish people
degraded by the total destruction of Provo arms at
the behest of the British government.
These arms were given for protection for destruction on
the freedom of Ireland. They
did not belong to the Provos to
destroy them. They belong to
those who continue the struggle
that the Provos abandoned.
Not alone did the Provos
destroy their centralized stores
of arms but ordered their lackeys to bring in local dumps as
well. They 'decentralised' their
destruction in the same manner
as the Free State in the 1920s
spread their executions of
Republican prisoners across the
26 Counties. Did they ask the
beleaguered nationalists in
enclaves throughout the Six
Occupied Counties — who are
under attack as never before -
to hand up their sole means of

The betrayal of the
Republican cause will not end
with arms destruction. They
will be required by their masters to accept and participate in
the British police in Ireland.

Provos are trying to rewrite history. They are trying to tell us
that the struggle was all about
achieving civil rights under
British rule.
This struggle was to remove
the British government and
forces from Ireland and establish Irish national indepen-

Bobby Sands and his comrades died agonizing deaths
rather than wear the British
convict uniform. The Provos
are using the names of our martyred dead to do all this betrayal - using the name of the
Revolution to betray the
Revolution.
The Provos want not just to
destroy arms but to end the liberation movement in Ireland.
They have accepted that the Six
Counties belong to England and
have and will be prepared to
administer British rule there.
The old argument is being
made again that resistance to
colonial rule in Ireland was
never justified. Fr Alex Reid,
whose own parents were
involved in the fight for Irish
freedom, condemned Irish
resistance as far back as the
United Irishmen. Like many
other instruments of the British
over the years, Alex Reid is
really mimicking the old imperial war cry "Croppies lie
down!" According to this
shameful argument the Irish
alone of all peoples in the world
have no right to fight for their
place on the face of the earth.
Meanwhile, the British occupation forces are not going to be

disarmed. Neither are the loyalist death squads. Loyalist
attacks - which have doubled in
the past six months to an average of five per day - are aimed
at restoring discrimination
against nationalists and
entrenching their supremacist
situation. They should instead
be considering EIRE NUA

and decision-making throughout the nine counties of Ulster

that the end is not yet.
There will always be resistance to English rule here.
