It
appears, the pen is sharper than the sword. Gerry
Adams was refused a visa because fund raising would
be forbidden, as a condition, to obtain one. He will
go to Canada instead of the U.S. His award for being
a peacenik is commendable. The end result is that
the British government will now be able to spend less
on the North of Ireland. Bad news for the cause, and
the effect it will have.
It has always been the motivation of all, including
Bill Clinton, to save the buck for Britian. Losing
pounds is not great for the British, but, bad for
the U.S. as well. Things like Nato and spending on
Iraq fall more heavily on the U.S. because british
pounds were needed in N.I..
The bottom line is, peace is always good, but, this
peace is at the cost of a United Ireland. The Bush
Administration and the Oil lobby are laughing all
the way to bank. Northern Irish Nationalists are losing
a country. American working class wages and benefits
are are gushing out of a broken pipe.
Irish
American money is still here, but, also slipping away.
The one good point is that the message to Gerry proves
the fear of the British government. That fear is that
the peace sedative will wear off and the drowsey tiger
of Irish Nationalism will wake up as it always has,
in the past.
