CAPITOL
HILL. Tuesday, October 21, 2003---- Irish-Americans
reacted with delight at the news that elections are
being called for Northern Ireland.
"We congratulate Prime Minister Blair for correcting
his mistake of May in cancelling the elections, and
we congratulate Gerry Adams and David Trimble for
negotiating the way forward", said Father Sean
McManus, President of the Capitol Hill-based Irish
National Caucus.
Father Mc Manus then went on to call on Republican
dissidents embrace the peace-process: "I appeal
to all of them to re-think their position, to accept
the IRA ceasefire and embrace the peace-process.Irish-Americans
will not support your devisive-splits or your continuation
of violence."
"It
is now time -- to use the favored phrase of Martin
Luther King -- to build up " The Beloved Community"
in Northern Ireland", he concluded.
