Chicago Function

This letter is in response to Conditions for Irish POWs Today by Deirdre Fennessy

Colm B Mitchell • 25 August 2004

A Chara,

On August 8th a successful function for Cabhair was held in Chicago. I had heard of the 24 hour fast from Na Fianna's website and decided I should do it here to raise awareness for the POWs.

I began my fast at 2PM on Saturday the 7th of August. The next day I hosted a fundraising function for CABHAIR at the Abbey Pub. We had about 15-20 people attend, some veteran Republicans and some new faces. Fliers on Eire Nua and the conditions in Maghaberry Gaol were passed out.

A statement from Na Fianna Eireann was read after that I said a few words of my own before introducing the guest speaker who spoke on the current conditions facing the POWs.

The event ended with a raffle drawing of POW crafts.
