The Blanket

Clarification sought

Ivan Walton • 30 August 2004

I read with interest Marty Egan and Ned McGinley writing about AOH USA.

Mr Egan writes (Letter 23rd August) that “The mission of the AOH in America written in its Constitution is the Protection of the Roman Catholic Church and its clergy.”

Mr McGinley on the other hand writes (Article 23rd August), with the authority of office as President of the AOH in USA, that the AOH in America promotes “the Irish Catholic Faith”.

Could I ask for clarification?

How is the “Irish Catholic Faith” different from the Roman Catholic faith as practised by other Americans ?

Was Mr McGinley indulging in some form of ethno-sectarian elitism?
