As
a long time Dylan fan, and the one who wrote the Easter
speech, I have to say I'm surprised by Win O'Toole
remarks (Letters to the BLANKET May 8th). A firm believer
in no guru, no method no teacher, I have always believed
and advocated that the liberation of the class is
the task of the class itself. Members of the IRSP
have said in speeches much of what Win is saying -
that there is no certainty about the way forward.
The ERPS dont have all the answers. Our own history
is testimony to that. We have been prepared to ask
the awkward questions and have none of the arrogance
of the leadership of Sinn Fein or the certainties
of the ultra left in the SP or the SWP.
We
have in the IRSP broad range of perspectives. What
binds us together is our republican socialism. You
could hardy expect us to welcome with open arms into
our movement those who did not share our broad republican
socialist perspective can you? Read Terry Harkin's
speech to Scottish socialist republicans and I think
you will get a flavour of what we are about.
And
If Win writes the speech he wants to hear, there is
a very good chance he will hear it from an ERP platform.
(from
a safe old, tough sounding ageing hippy from the sixties!!)
It's all right Ma I'm only bleeding!
