Comrades,
Profits
and peace was the message sent out by capitalist Mr.
Lyons representing business interests from the states
to his audience in Belfast. Like the school headmaster
he scolded the naughty north and warned that investors
from multi-national companies would be hard pressed
to come to the north unless the peoples fall in line
and behave. I ask, at what cost must the working class
give in to the profiteers in order to receive their
economic blackmail? The cost would include continued
Brit rule, a partitioned land, and a carefully fostered
sectarian society, policing service beholden to one
community and support of the Brit initiated Good Friday
Agreement. The working class can have their jobs under
the chains of oppression from the state and mercy
of the capitalist. Not a good set of choices for the
working class who will suffer the most. You cannot
have economic freedom without social and national
freedom. The Good Friday Agreement does not deliver
it. The shame is that alternative plans of action
like EIRE NUA from Sinn Fein Poblachtach and policy
positions from the IRSP are not being heard by the
masses. An acceptable level of violence is not the
answer, a united front for national, economic and
social freedom is.
