The Blanket

Shades of Gray

Tara Lin

Reading the letters regarding the anger felt by some American's after September 11th left me wondering what happened to shades of gray. Others must remember us Americans are relative virgins when it comes to feeling the direct impact of the actions of our government. As Americans we have not, since Vietnam, had to move to the streets to make a profound statement about politics and our communal life. Likewise, those who have, like myself, steadfastly supported a free and united Ireland, overlooking some of the ramifications of the struggle, must remember and come to grips with the reality so much of the rest of the world is living with and use this new knowledge to examine our views and associations. I can only hope the rest of the world gives us time and space to assimilate and begin reflecting our new world experience on the electoral process.
